THE STORY

BORN IN LIVERPOOL

John Lennon forms The Quarrymen in 1956 — a skiffle group from Woolton. In July 1957, he meets Paul McCartney at a church fête. A handshake between two teenagers becomes the founding moment of modern music.

THE FAB FOUR IS COMPLETE

Ringo Starr joins, locking in the final line-up. EMI's George Martin signs them. "Love Me Do" reaches #17 in the UK. They record their debut album in a single session of barely ten hours.

BEATLEMANIA

Britain erupts. Five number ones in a single year. The screaming is so loud at concerts the band can barely hear themselves play. Royal Variety Performance. Five million viewers. Nothing like this has ever happened before.

THE BRITISH INVASION

73 million Americans watch The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. They simultaneously hold the top five positions on the Billboard Hot 100 — an achievement that has never been matched. America falls completely in love.

THE STUDIO REVOLUTION

The Beatles stop touring and retreat into Abbey Road. Revolver. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The White Album. Each record rewrites what popular music is capable of. The world holds its breath and listens.

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD

Abbey Road — their masterpiece — is their final recording together. On April 10th, McCartney announces the split. The music of the decade is over. The music of all time has only just begun.
